December Purchases

I had every intention of being on the “nice” list for December, but, well, Star Wars! Although my 2015 budget was already spent, I couldn’t resist some Star Wars apparel and a thrift shop on Boxing Day. (Oh, and I picked up a couple of pairs of earrings while shopping for Christmas presents.) I definitely made the naughty list.

Forever 21

1. R2D2 pullover, $24.90
2. Darth Vader leggings, $19.90.

If you follow my instagram (@KasmiraKit), you know I also bought the Jedi PJ pants, but I don’t count pajamas in my budget. (Even though I wore those pajama pants to a party. And it wasn't a pajama party.)

Disneyland

3. Star Wars hat, $30-ish. (I seem to have lost the receipt.)

Rose Bowl Flea Market

I’m not super keen on Disneyland, so I get to pick a second destination on our Mickey Mouse trips. I chose the Rose Bowl Flea Market. It was glorious AND I finished up my Christmas shopping.

4. Golden Grass Brazil leather tassle earrings, $18.00 x 2 = $36.00

Goodwill

5. Ferragamo wedges, $4.00.
6. Leopard stretchy belt, $1.00.
7. Embellished leather belt, $1.50.

December total: $117.30

Total spending for the year: $1976.39

Remaining 2015 budget: -$203.39.

I ended the year over my budget, but I did better than in previous years! In 2014, I was $500 over budget and in 2013, I was $1000 over budget.

For 2016, I have a clothing budget of $25/month. I have some large expenses coming up, so I plan to limit my “fun” shopping to thrift stores. (I don’t count things like underwear, pajamas, or workout gear in my budget.) I initially planned a budget of $0, but a few new things from the thrift store each month will stave off total wardrobe boredom (for me and you).

Crazy Town

When I look in the mirror, or review my outfit photos, I don’t see the crazy. But when people at the grocery store stare at my Punky Brewster looks, I realize I appear a little different than the other shoppers. So, I put on my biggest smile and hope that I look friendly crazy, not scary crazy.

Two Tartans One Cat

I booked the really “fun” appointments for a day off: a car check-up and a dental cleaning. I made the most of it with some crazy pattern mixing.

Jacket, Chap’s. Tunic, Forever 21. Turtleneck and leggings, Mossimo. Boots, Sam Edelman. Sunglasses, Target. Bag, thrifted.

Humble Beginnings

I’ve had this blazer since I started blogging in Fall 2006. I’ve almost gotten rid of it half a dozen times. Maybe it’s finally coming back into style.

Blazer, The Limited. Dress, Ella Moss. Stockings, Me Moi. Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Sunglasses, Meow Meow. Scarf, gift. Bag, Steve Madden.

This scarf dates from my early blogging years, too. It was a gift from Londyn, who has since shuttered her own style blog.

The first appearances of the jacket and scarf on my blog:

Those old pics make me blush and laugh. I don’t think I ever would have imagined that I would one day have hair to match the trim on this jacket.

I’m sure I’ll LOL at ridiculous 2015 Kasmira soon enough.

Puffy Vest

I love a puffy vest. When my black, hooded vest from Deb got too ratty to wear (other than to the dog park), I upgraded to a down version from J Crew. I do wish it had a hood, though. And that I hadn’t worn it to the dirty dog park, today.

Vest, J Crew. Tee, Forever 21. Tunic, Wet Seal (thrifted). Jeggings, Mossimo. Boots, Vince Camuto. Sunglasses, Toms. Earrings, Rose Bowl flea market. Scarf, Claire’s Boutique. Bag, vintage.

Thrift Throwdown

Everything at Goodwill was 50% off on the day after Christmas. The parking lot was packed, but there was no trouble in the store. Unless you wanted a shopping cart. And then you had to sign up for the wait list. Or steal one from an inattentive shopper. (I did neither, using a basket to carry my treasures.)

Jacket and leggings, Allen B. Skirt, Mural (consignment). Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Earrings, Rose Bowl flea market. Buttons, Disney. Bag, vintage.

My score: dishes, belts, and a pair of Ferragamo shoes:

The day after Christmas is my favorite day to shop. This is what I’ve worn on previous Boxing Day excursions (not all of them shopping):

Repeat Viewing

We went to see Star Wars, again. I was hoping for a semi-empty theatre so that I could make commentary/ask questions during the movie, but it is still a buy your tickets in advance, line up to enter the auditorium, fill every seat kind of show. I don’t begrudge it success. But I can’t wait to have my own copy to watch/talk to at home. (I’m sure Beefy can’t wait, either. There’s nothing better than watching a movie with someone who won’t stop talking.)

Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Sweatshirt, tunic, and leggings, Forever 21. Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Sunglasses, Girlprops.

Pink Boho

One of my favorite outfits ever was my interpretation of the Bohemian aesthetic in the Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style. I tried every one of the ten styles in the book. Bohemian and Rock and Roll were my favorites.

Today’s look was inspired by my Bohemian outfit from seven years ago. (I wouldn’t say it is recognizably boho, though.)

Jacket, Dex. Shirt, Victoria’s Secret. Dress, Jovovich Hawk for Target. Leggings, Express. Boots, Dan Post. Sunglasses, Meow Meow. Buttons, Disney. Owl brooch, swap. Bag, Clark’s.

”Yesterday’s” boho style and today’s:

Gray Head

As much as I love the pink hair, I want a more neutral color on my head for some outfits. I suppose that’s why hats were invented! (Not to keep one’s head warm or dry or anything.)

Hat, Nine West. Turtleneck, Gap (swap). Vest, Tilt (cut from a consignment jacket). Skirt, Hauber Sporting Life (thrifted). Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren.
