December Purchases

I was a big spender in 2013. I was dressing for a new climate and a new job, so some new garments were in order. My shopping habits changed, too. I spent more at boutiques and consignment shops and less at the thrift store. In 2014, I hope to thrift more clothing, but continue to buy fancy shoes.

DSW

I love my heels, but I occasionally need to wear dressy flats. My red pair (bought on New Year’s Eve 2006!) are looking pretty shabby. I had originally spied this black/white pair of flats this summer at DSW, but I’m glad I waited to buy them on sale!

1. BCBG Paris flats, $26.64

Cuffs

I love the slim cut, contrast sleeves, and elbow patches on this sweet blazer.

2. Love Tree Blazer, $49.00

Kohl’s

Confession: I bought this in November. On Black Friday. But I didn’t get to wear it and photograph it until December.

3. Chaps red and black plaid sweater, $64.35

French Cuffs

Is this a dress or a sleeveless coat? Either way, it’s perfect for Sacramento’s winter.

4. Rugby Ralph Lauren tweed dress, $31.50

Mercer Place

I love this knit, wool blazer. It’s warm, stretchy, flattering, and goes with everything.

5. Diane Von Furstenberg knit blazer, $56.25

Nordstrom Rack

Total score:

6. Theory silk dress, gift card!

Canvas Boutique

Brianna, look away. This is the same scarf that I bought for you.

6. Faux Missoni infinity scarf, $28.00

ARC

My one thrifted item in December.

7. Floral belt, $1.50

December total: $257.24

Total spending for the year: $2521.25

Remaining 2013 budget: -$1081.25.

Here’s hoping that 2014’s clothing budget won’t be such a joke!

NYE Lightweight

Once again, I didn’t make it to midnight. My 20-year old sister didn’t make it either (in fact, she caved first!) so that makes me feel a little better. These photos were taken many hours before the new year, when the sun and I (and my sis) were still awake.

Cardigan, Banana Republic (thrifted and gifted). Sweater, Forever 21. Dress, Brannan Studio San Francisco (thrifted). Leggings, We Love Colors. Boots, Vince Camuto. Sunglasses, Girlprops. Earrings, Claire’s. Bag, Nine West.

No Snow

We were expecting snow in Dunsmuir. Lots of snow. Instead, I think Mt Shasta had more snow when I visited in September. So, this outfit was a bit of an overkill. (And I ditched the puffy vest.)

Shirt, Levi’s (thrifted). Skirt, thrifted and gifted. Leggings, Danskin. Legwarmers, Sock Dreams. Boots, Matisse. Sunglasses, Girlprops.

While Jasper would have had a great time sledding, I think he had an equally great time splashing in the headwaters of the Sacramento River.

Golden Gate

I’m (obviously) in The City for the day. We had to make it quick, but we managed a visit to the Walt Disney Family Museum and Burma Star.

Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Sweater, Ashley (thrifted). Leggings, Danskin. Boots, Vince Camuto. Hat, Pangaea. Sunglasses, Target. Bag, Nine West.

Thrift Boxing

I finally had a good thrifting experience in Sacramento. We visited shops in an area I haven’t previously frequented, but I think it was the company, more than the selection, that made the day successful.

Jacket, thrifted. Sweater, Mossimo. Shorts, Lassie. Tights, Target. Boots, Vince Camuto. Sunglasses, Target. Scarf, Charming Charlie. Necklace, vintage. Bag, Nine West.

We shopped two Goodwills, an Eco Thrift, and a Thrift Town in South Sac and all found something to take home.

Christmas Sweater

Yes, I’m wearing this knit jacket, AGAIN! It’s so Christmas-y, though, so I had to wear it on Christmas Adam, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Sweater, Chaps. Turtleneck, Gap (swap). Skirt, London Jean. Leggings, Danskin. Boots, Dan Post. Sunglasses, Target. Earrings, California State Fair. Bag, Nine West. Belt, thrifted.

Beefy had to work Christmas day, so present opening was delayed until late afternoon. In the meantime, Jasper and I had a nice, long run along the river, we all (Jasper, my sister, Natasha, and I) ate donuts for breakfast, and then we spent some time at the dog park:

Finally, we opened gifts (I got a skateboard!), ate chinese, and saw Frozen. It was a pretty great Christmas day.

Dillon Beach

Dillon Beach is the doggiest-friendly beach I know. It’s like a giant, off-leash dog park, complete with sand, tide pools, and ocean waves.

Sweater, Chaps. Sweater, Joseph A (thrifted). Skirt, Mossimo. Leggings, Danskin. Boots, Vince Camuto. Sunglasses, Girlprops.

Gualala

“Gualala” sounds like a made-up name, but it’s a very real coastal town with terrifying waves. We stayed well away from the water’s edge.

Sweater, Chaps. Shirt, Old Navy. Skirt, Mossimo. Leggings, We Love Colors. Boots, Vince Camuto. Sunglasses, Girlprops. Necklace, thrifted.
