Green Crinoline

Floral skirt, Herman Geist (thrifted and shortened). Green crinoline, Casablanca Vintage. Cowlneck tank, Apt 9. Peeptoe pumps, Wet Seal. Earrings, thrifted. Bag, Franco Sarto.

I’ve developed a sort of 50’s obsession with full skirts. I think it’s from looking at too many of Ranna’s outfit photos. When she revealed that her secret to a super poofy skirt was a crinoline, I began the hunt for my own. I bought this green tulle version from Hollywood at Casablanca Vintage. I also bought a non-tulle, but layered and ruffled, underskirt at a Cappel’s. I much prefer the look of the tulle. Beware, though, of sitting at your desk in a tulle skirt all day. Without a slip between the stiff fabric and your skin, it is a bit painful.

I am with you on the pouffy skirts, but yeah, a crinoline looks very scratchy.

I can't help thinking that this outfit needs something more on top, like a necklace, bracelet, belt? The skirt is great (love the shoes), but the top is a little blah on its own.

I love those shoes!! We are kindred spirits - we both love bright colors. I also like how the crinoline is peeking out.

in my opinion, the shoes are a little too bright for the skirt. the colors in the skirt are all very muted, and the green of the shoes is very bright! black or nude shoes may have been a more appropriate choice. otherwise, i love it! i love how you've been toning down the accessories and colors a bit - much more sophisticated!

I read the post and comments and had no idea what crinoline was or is. After some wikipedia/googling I'm in the know.

Fun & Educational - who knew?

hi there, been checking out your blog regularly over the past few months, this is my first 'comment' though - some of your outfits are really unusual - some of the colors i wouldn't think would go well, infact, go very well (like yellow and green ).
Also, as i was browsing through the archives - i found most of your color combos to be ridiculous (oopsie - dont be mad :) )
nevertheless, it always makes for a *very* interesting read :)
Actually, i do have one favorite - your wedding ensemble - its so unusual , and really balanced - the colors and accessories and shoes are sharp, and the dress is really soft and 'not sharp' - if you know what i mean .... not too soft, the overall effect is stunning. and you definitely look better with the blonde hair color - i found the color combos of your outfits to oddly clash with the flaming red hair...they would look really gorgeous if you had the same hair coloring as u had in the wedding pics ...anywho...keep up the awesome work :)

Gorgeous look - where do you find those peep toe pumps in such amazing colors?!

I TOTALLY disagree with "Babe with Keyboard"--keep the red hair. When I was looking through your archives, and I saw your wedding pics, the first thing I noticed was the blonde hair, and I thought, "How predictable...". You stand out from the crowd (even more so) with your red hair. It shows your personality and really suits your skin tone (and you've perfected eyebrow dyeing, who'd want to lose that skill?)

Don't worry, I intend to keep the red hair AND the ridiculous color combinations. I have a flair for the theatrical. :)

Best place for crazy colors of shoes: trashy mall teen stores, like Charlotte Russe, Wet Seal, Body Central, etc. You can try out a bright color trend for a minimal investment ($25 or less).

I love your red hair. I was convinced that it was your natural color until I saw your wedding pics.

just chiming in with the red hair love - you pull it off SO well. often, it's the most perfect subtle accessory to your outfits!

I also think you do color matching in a way that seems natural/organic to the "feel" of the outfit ...

Very cute. I love the skirt. I've been searching for a cowlneck tank to wear with this skirt I have. I like that one.
